Wagtail UI team update #1

For a month or so now, I've been a member of the Wagtail core UI team and thought it would be helpful to provide an overview of what we do (...and hopefully encourage others to join!).

Comprising a mix of Wagtail core developers and volunteers, the team is essentially a working group that discusses core UI and UX development, proposes action items, and (optionally) undertakes research, issue fixes, etc.

Communication-wise, online meetings are held via Google Meet every other Wednesday at 3pm UK time, and last up to one hour. There's also a dedicated #ui channel on the Wagtail Slack server and, of course, discussion in the Wagtail issue queue and GitHub discussion forum.

The type and scope of topics discussed cover everything within the broad UI/UX remit and anything from a specific issue which is already in progress (via the GitHub issue queue) through to initial thoughts about a new, large-scale idea.

As an example, the most recent meeting focused on:

  • Block settings
  • Mobile support
  • AI concepts

I've found the team to be very welcoming, and would encourage anyone else who's interested to drop by the Slack #ui channel and introduce themselves.
